Why Road Safety Matters?

Over 470 lives are lost daily on Indian roads. Surely, you don't want to become a statistic—either as a victim or the cause of a tragedy. RSF urges all road users to strictly abide by traffic rules, and calls on road authorities to rigorously enforce safety norms.

Everyone is a road user. Everyone must commit not to violate road discipline. We can set example for others too. Help RSF in making road journey accident-free and smooth.

Buckle yourself up

Important findings and trends

As a biker, you know better that a reliable helmet not only can save your head but your very existence in this world. Buckle up in your own, and your family's interest, whenever you ride. You may even go beyond and donate a good helmet to someone who cannot afford.

It is shocking to know:

As per the GOI's report "Road Accidents in India 2023", non-wearing of helmets led to the death of over 54,500 persons and injury to nearly 100,000 in a single year! Further, a large number of the injured become permanently disabled.

  • With 4,80,583 road accidents, 1,72,890 deaths during the year translates  over 470 deaths every day (20 deaths every hour/ 1 death every 3 minutes).

  • Over speeding is a major killer, accounting for more than 70% deaths. Young adults (18-45 age group) continue to be victims of road accidents, constituting 67.6%. Two-wheeler riders’ fatalities were again the highest, nearly 45% during 2023.

  • Accidents in rural India are far too many ( more than 68%), as against urban areas (31%).

  • Road accidents unfortunately, continue to show an increasing trend over the past many years, despite a few positive developments in between. The capital city of India, Delhi, shockingly stays on or near the top, across India, in terms of road accidents.
